In addition to his 1513 world map, Piri Reis authored the "Kitab-ı Bahriye" (Book of Navigation), an extraordinary detailed guide to the Mediterranean Sea, filled with maps and sailing instructions. Despite his significant contributions, his life ended tragically when he was executed around 1553, during a failed military campaign in the Persian Gulf.
