Ninotchka Movie Poster

Ninotchka is a romantic comedy film that beautifully illustrates the clash between cold Soviet austerity and free-spirited Parisian charm. The movie, directed by Ernst Lubitsch, stars Greta Garbo as Nina Ivanovna "Ninotchka" Yakushova and Melvyn Douglas as Count Leon d'Algout. Known for its witty dialogue and clever plot, Ninotchka was one of the most popular films in 1939.For this poster, Hollywood designers opted for simplicity to highlight Garbo's star power. As such, it prominently features an elegant drawing of her character with text promising viewers they’ll see 'Garbo Laughs!'. This phrase became famous because until Ninotchka, audiences were used only to seeing her in heavy dramatic roles.
