Piet Mondrian, Dutch painter. Pieter Cornelis "Piet Mondriaan" Mondrian after 1912. Founded by Theo van Doesburg, De Stijl was an important supporter of the art movement and formation. He created a style that was unprecedented and called Neoplastism.
Piet Mondrian in 1918; 1: Created the first "losangique" pictures, like Four Lined Lozenge (1930), by tilting a 45-degree square canvas. Most of these diamond-shaped works were created after the breakup of Theo van Doesburg on the introduction of the diagonal along with the De Stijl group in 1925 and 1926. Mondrian, on this note, felt that van Doesburg had betrayed the basic principles of movement and thus lost the static invariance obtained with stable vertical and horizontal lines. However, Mondrian claimed that his rotated canvases allowed the network to maintain the desired balance, while the 45-degree turn allowed longer lines.
