Piet Mondrian

Piet Mondrian, Dutch painter. Pieter Cornelis "Piet Mondriaan" Mondrian after 1912. Founded by Theo van Doesburg, De Stijl was an important supporter of the art movement and formation. He created the unique style he calls Neoplasticism.

Artistic Style of Piet Mondrian

Piet Mondrian in 1918, later Composition No. 1: He created his first "losangique" paintings, such as the Four Lined Lozenge (1930), by tilting a square canvas at 45 degrees. Most of these diamond-shaped works were created in 1925 and 1926 with the De Stijl group after Theo van Doesburg broke off upon the introduction of the diagonal. In this, Mondrian felt that van Doesburg had betrayed the fundamental principles of movement, thereby losing the static invariance achieved by his determined vertical and horizontal lines. However, Mondrian suggested that his own rotated canvases maintain the desired stability of the grid, while the 45 degree rotation allows for longer lines.
He was influenced by famous painters such as Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Bart van der Leck, Theo van Doesburg. He is the creator of the Neoplasticism style, which consists of transverse and longitudinal black lines on a white background and 3 primary colors.
