Artistic Style of Paul Klee
Although Klee's paintings are difficult to classify, he has been associated with movements such as Expressionism, Cubism, Futurism, Surrealism and Abstract art in different periods. The painter, who generally worked separately from his contemporaries, interpreted new art movements from his own perspective. His methods and techniques were unusually inventive. Klee produced his works using many different tools such as watercolor, ink, pastel and engraving. Sometimes he combined two tools in a single table. He made his paintings on materials such as canvas, burlap, muslin, linen, sile cloth, cardboard, metal foil, weaving, wallpaper, newsprint. He used different types of color palettes from monochrome to multicolored in his works. The painter, who mostly used geometric forms, also made use of letters, numbers and arrows. Klee combined these shapes with animal and human figures. Some of his work was completely abstract. Many of his paintings and the names of these paintings reflected the artist's sense of humor and mental state. In some, he included his political views. Poetry, music, dreams and sometimes notes can be distinguished in his works. In his later works, there are symbols such as Egyptian hieroglyphs.
