Paul Gauguin

The French post-Impressionist artist Paul Gauguin was an important figure in the symbolist and impressyonist art movement of the 1900's. His use of brave colors, exaggerated body proportions and sharp contrasts in his paintings distinguished him from his contemporaries. Primitivism helped to open the way for the art movement. Gauguin often called for exotic environments and lived in Tahiti for a long time.

Who is Paul Gauguin?

His real name is Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin (1848-1903), painter born in Paris. It is owned by Nafea Faaipoipo, who sold 300 million dollars and holds the record of the highest figure given to a work of art.

Paul Gauguin's artistic style

The works of the artist are members of the post-emprestyonist rush. It is generally known for its pictures of nature. In 1891, Gauguin tried to escape the structures of the European community. He thought he could offer him some kind of personal and creative freedom. After moving to Tahiti, Gauguin was disappointed to see that the French colonial authorities had made the majority of the island westerners. So he lived among the indigenous peoples and chose to stay away from Europeans living in the capital.

During this time Gauguin transformed the Christian figures of Mary and Jesus into a Tahitian mother and child in "La Orana Maria". During this time, Gauguin made many other works, including an engraved statue called "Oviri". Although this was a word from the word of Tahiti for "savage", according to Gauguin, the carved woman figure was actually a goddess.

In 1893 Gauguin returned to France to show some of his Tahitian paintings. The reactions to his works were confused and he could not sell too much. Critics and art buyers could not understand his primitive stylistic style. Then back to Gauguin French Polynesia. During this time, he continued to create one of his later masterpieces, "Where are we from? What are we? Where are we going?" Gauguin described the human life cycle.

In 1901, Gauguin moved to the farther Marquesas Islands. He had a few heart attacks. On May 3, 1903, Gauguin died on his own, free and alone.
